Q:
Do I need some kind of special licence to drive a houseboat?
A:
No. Your current
drivers licence is sufficient.
Q:
If I haven’t had any boating experience, can I still drive
a houseboat?
A:
Yes. Provided
you are over 18 years of age. When
you arrive,
Warriuka
Houseboats friendly staff will instruct you on the operation and
navigation of your houseboat. To
ensure you are comfortable and competent in the handling of the
houseboat, you will be taken on a short navigational cruise.
Q:
Where do I leave my vehicle whilst I am away on my holiday?
A:
Both Lock 5 and Tower Marina’s have a locked compound in
which your car and or caravan can be safely left whilst you relax
and enjoy your trip.
Q:
How many people can I bring on a houseboat?
A:
Whilst we would love you to bring as many friends as you can,
Maritime Regulations state the number of persons on board must not
exceed the number of berths, the maximum possible is 12.
Children under 12 months old are not included in this count.
Q:
Can I bring my children on a houseboat holiday?
A:
Yes. Houseboats
make an excellent family holiday.
Our houseboats have excellent child safety areas and make an
exciting and adventurous holiday for the kids, whilst taking the
stress away from the adults. Provided
the regulations are adhered to and you use common sense, your whole
family can enjoy the river.
Q:
How much bond do I have to pay and when do I get it back?
A:
Cash bonds vary from $400 - $500 per boat.
Bonds are refunded by mail within 7 days.
Q:
What is on the houseboat?
A:
Almost everything is provided for your houseboat holiday. All boats come with bed linen supplied, however not all boats
have bath towels provided. All
boats have fully equipped kitchens, all boats have a washing
machine. Block and
bagged ice can be supplied for Iceboxes on front decks.
Ask Doug and Cheryl at the time of booking for further
information as to what you will need.
Q:
How far can I travel?
A:
The average speed of a houseboat is approx. 7km per hour.
Most people would only travel 4 or 5 hours per day.
There are maps on all boats to assist with the navigation of
your holiday, and stopping anywhere along the banks of the River
Murray will take your breath away.
Q:
Can I travel at night on the river?
A:
No. Houseboats
can not be driven after sunset.
Q:
What happens if I damage the boat?
A:
The houseboat is insured.
Providing the terms and conditions of hire are adhered to,
the limit of liability is usually the insurance excess (ranging from
$240 - $500 ). Wilful
or negligent damage is not covered.
Q:
How much fuel will I use and what will it cost?
A:
Fuel charges are payable on completion of the hire.
Fuel usage and charges differ from boat to boat, ask your
friendly operator for an approximate usage and cost for your chosen
boat.
Q:
What happens if I need help?
A:
All houseboats are fitted with two-way radios in case you
need assistance.

What does the Houseboat Hirer’s Association member symbol
mean?
A:
The Houseboat Hirers Association was formed in 1982 and is
the recognised industry body. All
members are committed to abide by a code of conduct and ethics,
supply fully licensed operators and provide tuition for the
operation of a houseboat and it’s facilities. Houseboat Hirers Association have surveyed all Warriuka
Houseboat vessels, along with the Department of Transport (Marine
Safety Section) to ensure that the standard of accommodation and
facilities meet or exceed the set standards.
